Former Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar notifies the UFC of his retirement, according to USA Today Sports. This is huge news considering the UFC has always thrived in having a cash cow. The controversy surrounding his last fight against Mark Hunt with banned substances certainly adds to it.
When you consider fighters who have brought real numbers to the UFC such as Conor McGregor, Georges St-Pierre and Anderson Silva, you definitely can put Lesnar in that category and realize the loss. But his retirement may have been inevitable.
Lesnar’s return to the cage was short-lived after being absent from MMA for five years. His return was highly anticipated and then heavily scrutinized. Not only did Lesnar fail an out-of-competition test in advance of the fight, he failed another test the day of the fight, and both results were revealed after the fight. Something that had fans and especially Hunt furious. Lesnar was initially awarded a unanimous decision until it was overturned by the commission after learning the banned substance clomiphene was in his system.
