Bellator heavyweight Matt Mitrione backs out of his bout against Fedor Emelianenko. According to Bellator officials, Mitrione fell sick and could not compete. This stops the return of Emelianenko who has not fought in the U.S. in over five years.
According to ESPN, Bellator reps attempted to find replacements for Emelianenko but simply did not have enough time. Chael Sonnen, Cheick Kongo and Oli Thompson were three potential replacements before Bellator decided to scrap the bout entirely.
Emelianenko has been removed from the card and Bellator will have to continue without their headliner.
